The traffic you don’t control is comprised of organic visitors who end up at any of your websites. A majority of these visitors are requested to go to your landing page to enter their contact information.

Traffic you control

These visitors also arrive at your website having clicked on an advertisement, banner, joint venture, pay per click, affiliate, buy, or a referral website. It can even be another blog, directory, forum, social media, or a website. These visitors are first directed into one of your landing pages, at which point you will be able to convert them into traffic you own. 

Traffic you own

This is traffic from people who have already seen some type of offering you have given, they have opted in, and now they are on your email list. You are the sole owner of this list of interested buyers that you can communicate with at any time with any message you want. Having traffic that you own can be one of the best assets you have in your online business.

You want traffic to be your own traffic

The ultimate goal should be to convert all types of visitors into traffic that you own. When you own the traffic, it’s much easier to sell your product or service to them. The bigger and more responsive your customer list is, the easier the online marketing game gets for you.

Remember, it’s important to build a relationship with your customer base. It is much better to have a smaller list that is responsive to what you say, than a large list that does not respond to any of your messages. Be sure to send your customers valuable information from which they can learn.

Here is an important concept that you should remember about driving traffic. The goal is to get new customers and simultaneously cover all your marketing cost. This completely changes the economics of your business. Get that lead on your list. Once you can acquire at buyers at break-even, everything else they purchase goes straight to your bottom line.
